The Price of Free

Hidden inside overcrowded factories around the world, THE PRICE OF FREE tells the story of countless children who are forced into slave labor due to rising global demands for cheap goods. With the help of a covert network of informants, Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi and his dedicated team carry out daring raids to rescue and rehabilitate imprisoned children. Using hidden cameras and playing the role of buyers at the factory to gain access, we watch Kailash take on one of his most challenging missions to date: finding Sonu, a young boy trafficked to Delhi for work who has been missing for eight months. Now his father dreams of Sonu coming home. Kailash's warmth and passion have gained international support for his philosophy that each child should be allowed to embrace their childhood. He gives them support, clothes, medical care and an education. Equal parts harrowing and motivating, first-time filmmaker Derek Doneen pulls us into Kailash's gripping pursuits and relentless energy to create the change he wants to see.

Developing a Research Question

Points to consider

  • Is the research question something you care about? Is it arguable?
  • Is the question researchable within the given timeframe and location?
  • Is there enough information to answer your question? If not, do you have to switch your focus?
  • What additional information is needed?

Developing a Question for the PeOPle Project

Bad Questions - Closed: Basic facts or yes/no questions

  • Are mosquito-borne diseases a problem in India?

Bad Questions - Too Broad:

  • To what extent are mosquito-borne diseases a problem in India?

Good Questions - Open: Take a lot of information to answer, explain how/why?

  • Why did....? What would......? What caused.....?
  • Why are certain groups of people more at risk to mosquito-borne diseases in Delhi?
  • What are the main causes of mosquito-borne diseases in Delhi and what are the health effects?
  • What is being done to prevent mosquito-borne diseases from spreading especially in high-risk areas in Delhi?
  • How effective is fogging in Delhi and what are the impacts?
