Debate on Partition/Operation Blue Star

In the last two weeks of the unit, you will compile your research and organize it to debate about if Partition was the right decision back in 1947. For those of you wishing to stretch your thinking even more, you will have the opportunity to do some independent research around Operation Blue Star and the subsequent assassination of Indira Gandhi. The skills and standards we will focus on are:

  • Delineate a speaker’s argument and supporting claims
  • Evaluate a the soundness of reasoning and relevance and sufficiency of an argument
  • Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples
  • Use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation
  • Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence

Debate Topic 1:  Partition was justified.

Debate Topic 2:  The Indian independence movement was justified.
